Handmade Christmas Cards with Buttons | Joulukortteja ja nappeja

Sain pahan flunssan viime viikolla ja käytin muutaman illan joulukorttien askarteluun. Kirjekavereiden kortit olin postittanut jo aiemmin (niistä kuvia ensi viikolla).

I got a bad flu last week and spent a few evenings making Christmas cards. But as usual, I was late with making cards so I had already sent Christmas cards to a few penpals (I'll show pictures of those cards next week). I won't use all of these this year, just a few for family and relatives, so I'll probably send out some of these to penpals next year. I'd also like to paint a Christmas painting like I did a year ago and have some cards printed of that for next year though.

Nappiteeman kortteihin löysin googlettamalla "handmade Christmas cards". Yksi maatuskoista on vuoden 2011 ylijäämä. Joulukorttivideo.

The button theme for these cards came from googling "handmade Christmas cards" and seeing a few button upcycling cards in the results. I thought they were really cute so I wanted to do something similar. I first did the Christmas ball, ornament and tree cards and then decided to continue with a few Russian doll cards the next evening. One of the Matryoshka doll cards is actually a leftover from 2011. I just added the buttons and did a bit of touch-up for that one. The Christmas tree card was definitely the toughest to make (hence I only made one of those) and I did glue my fingers a few times while making it. The rest of them were pretty fun to make. Watch how to make woven heart, button and Christmas tree Christmas cards.

The cards are made of card stock, paper tape (cheaper version of washi tape), old buttons, stickers, and magazine clippings, with a bit of silver pen, marker and colored pencil in there. I used a hot glue gun to attach the buttons. A couple of the cards have birch bark hearts too, but they don't show up well in the photos. For some of the cards I also added an inside page for greetings (attached by hemp string), which can be replaced and the card can be recycled (= sent to a new receiver next year). If I send these through mail (next year), I'll probably add a bit of cardboard in the envelope to shield the buttons to make sure they don't fall off in the mail.
